Again, apologies for the late update on the site.... Most of you know, and for those of you that don't know we have a new World Bboy Masters Champion from the R16 World Bboy Champs and Urban Arts Festival and the winner is ... drum roll ... GAMBLERZ CREW from Korea!!!!


the Gamblerz Crew beat out Top Nine Crew from Russia who took 1st place on the first day of the competition which was a Performance/Choreography contest amongst the 16 gathered Crews.
Congratulations to both the Gamblerz Crew (Korea) & Top Nine Crew (Russia) who won a total of $20,000 Each over 2 days. Congratulations also go to the Brazilian All Stars who got 3rd Place and won $4,000 and Rivers Crew the champions from 2007 who still was able to make it to the final four and took home $1,000.

 The 2007 R16 CHAMPIONS - RIVERS CREW (KOREA) takes 4th place & $1,000.
We also had some events and contests for the poppers, lockers, funk stylers and the B-girls for a chance to represent Korea at the UK B-boy Championships and for the B-girls a chance to represent Korea and Korean B-girls at the Battle of the Year - We*B-Girlz tournament this fall. Congratulations.

So, it's been awhile since you've heard from us here at the R16 Urban Arts Festival.. The event was a HUGE success and we apologize for dropping off the map but we are back from our extended vacation and again.. we apologize for the lack of updates ... Our whole team went into hibernation and some of us went on much needed breaks and vacations from the preparations and madness that was the R16 Korea 2008. Over 8 months of planning, stressing, late nights, fatigue and 2 days of sensory overload is our excuse for our lack of presence on this site, but we are back and we hope you guys keep on checking up on us as we prepare for next year. The feedback from the event was great and the news clips and articles are steadily pouring in from all our partners and correspondants. We will update you here on this site so keep your eyes open and ears to the ground as we clue you into all the hype and excitement. We want to thank all of the Korea Tourism Organization, the Province of Gyeonggi for the support and advocacy of this event and our culture. We want to thank all the international Bboys, the DJ's, the Judges, the artists, the guest performers, Salah, Hilty & Bosch & Cothkoo, Doonga Park and Myosung who brought our stage alive with their shows. We want to thank the Known Gallery and the Seventh Letter Crew, Wontak Crew, JnJ Crew, Mr. Koma, Mad Victor Crew for painting and writing and bringing some ill ass Graffiti to our walls and our cities. Brent Rollins for his awesome mural on our stages! Cool Calm Pete & Diego for helping and starting us off with our design. Thank you to our homegirl Joy for hooking things up! Jeff Chang, author of Can't Stop! Won't Stop & Total Chaos, books that should most definitely be on Oprah's booklist if she would support our culture more and also overall super nice guy is here at the R16 and already he's not a day off the plane and he's showing us mad love. Jeff Chang is an American journalist and music critic on hip-hop music and culture. His writings have appeared in publications such as URB, The Bomb, San Francisco Chronicle, the Village Voice, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Vibe, Spin, The Nation, and Mother Jones, as well as in his history of hip-hop, Can't Stop, Won't Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation, published in 2005 by St. Martin's Press.
Jeff Chang is a 1985 graduate of Iolani School.[1] He was a founding member of the Solesides record label while a DJ at a UC Davis college radio station, which was the home to acts like DJ Shadow and Blackalicious before it was recreated as Quannum Projects.
Chang's latest work is Total Chaos: The Art and Aesthetics of Hip-Hop, an anthology of essays and interviews documenting the impact of hip-hop beyond music and the "four elements." The book was released in 2007. According to its companion website, following the release of Total Chaos, Chang held a series of public panel discussions to further explore the subject.
